Smith Criminal Law specialise in providing expert legal advice and representation in criminal, traffic and domestic violence matters.

We appear in all Courts throughout Queensland. We represent people charged with any type of offence, from simple traffic offences through to serious charges, including drug offences, offences of violence, sexual offences, offences against children, dishonesty and property offences.

ANNA SMITH
ANNA SMITHDirector
Anna has 20 years of experience as a solicitor and barrister in NSW and Qld. She is a natural strategist and savvy negotiator. Her diverse legal experience, knowledge of criminal law and advocacy skills have resulted in her being one of the most sought after criminal lawyers on the Sunshine Coast. She was admitted as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of NSW in 2000. In 2009 she was admitted to the roll of barristers in Qld and entered on the High Court’s register of practitioners. Her experience in both criminal prosecution and defence is extensive.

She has appeared in all jurisdictions in both Qld and NSW as a crown prosecutor, defence counsel or solicitor advocate in trials, summary hearings, committals, sentences, appeals and various applications.

She has prosecuted and defended countless State and Commonwealth offences including assault, grievous bodily harm, burglary, robbery, rape, maintaining a sexual relationship with a child, possession of child exploitation material, murder, drug offences, traffic offences, fraud.

WYLYN CHAN
WYLYN CHANLegal Clerk and Administration
Wylyn is a key member of the team at Smith Criminal law and the first point of call for clients and colleagues. She is instrumental to the daily office management and brings over 10 years’ experience in Business Administration and Customer Service from her vast background in the airline and property industries.

Wylyn understands that being faced with a criminal offence can be stressful and prides herself on her clear communication skills with all clients from the initial enquiry through to the finalisation of their matters. Showcasing passion and a meticulous attention to detail, Wylyn is currently completing her Bachelor of Laws.

Growing up in Brisbane, Wylyn made the sea change to the Sunshine Coast and hasn’t looked back. Adjusting to the coast lifestyle Wylyn enjoys spending time on the beach or on her dirt bike.

JACOB PRUDEN
JACOB PRUDENSolicitor Advocate
Jacob has been practicing criminal law for over 5 years. During that time he has represented clients in a wide range of offences, including: drug offences, assaults, sexual offences, burglaries, armed robberies, DVO breaches, and driving matters.

He has represented clients in the Supreme, District, and Magistrates’ Courts. Jacob always seeks the best results for his clients whether that involves negotiating charges, taking things to summary hearing or trial or arguing well prepared pleas.

Before joining Smith Criminal Law, Jacob was a barrister in Victoria. There, he prosecuted
serious matters, which means he understands the decision-making of the prosecution and
can utilise that knowledge and experience to obtain great results. He also defended many
and varied criminal matters in all courts.

He has also worked as a criminal advocate for the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia.
